We are pleased to announce the opening for the post of an Executive Secretary for Resource Mobilization and Programmes with particular responsibilities for fund Development in addition to Youth Leadership Development and Gender Equity that will become vacant in October 2011.

 

We are looking for a committed and experienced person involved in work related to Resource mobilization, Youth Leadership Development, and Gender Equity with good academic background. The person should be able to articulate current regional and global issues well. She/He could be from the YMCA in the region.

 

Attached please find a Document giving particulars related to the position. The position is to be filled by 1 September 2011 (which allows her/him one month for learning and handover). The appointment will be for a contract of 3 years. The closing date for applications is July 10, 2011.

Post of Executive Secretary
for Resource Mobilization & Programmes

 

1. Position Description :

The Young Men’s Christian Association, YMCA, is an international, voluntary, Christian ecumenical movement. It seeks to unite young people, men, women and children, irrespective of race or religion, in the task of building community characterised by justice, love and peace based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs established in 1949 is an integral part of the World Alliance of YMCAs. It is a Federation of 24 YMCA Movements in the Asia and Pacific countries and territories and 3 YMCAs in formation. We work in solidarity will all peoples regardless of their ages, gender, race or religion to address their needs.

The major responsibility of the person in this position is to, under the direction of the General Secretary, implement the programmes of the Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs, particularly those related to the focus areas of Resource Mobilization, Youth Leadership Development, and Gender Equity.

The following are some specific responsibilities:

  • To develop financial development plan for resource mobilization as necessary or assigned by the General Secretary.
  • To develop workshops and trainings for the financial development in the sub-regional levels as well as some the major countries.
  • To provide staff assistance to the Executive Committee, Standing Committees and Task Groups.
  • To plan and implement the programmes in the focus areas of Youth Leadership Development and Gender Equity, and integration of youth and women concerns and participation into programmes of other focus areas, namely Contemporary Mission and Social Relevance, Building Community, Global Citizenship, Peace, and Movement Strengthening.
  • To represent the Alliance at meetings and/or collaborate with partner organisations and networks, e.g. Ecumenical Asian Students and Youth Network, etc. as assigned by the General Secretary.
  • To assist the General Secretary in preparing material for Asia and Pacific Alliance publications, including articles and reports related to her/his responsibilities.
  • To perform any other duty as may be assigned by the General Secretary.

 

2. Qualifications, Experiences and Personal Attributes :

  • Christian (preferably)
  • Citizen of any country in the region
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised University. A Master’s Degree in the Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related fields of study will be an added advantage.
  • Fluency in the English language. Must be able to write in English publishable reports, papers and articles on YMCA vision and work in the areas of his/her responsibilities.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be in excellent Health. A health certificate must be furnished prior to final confirmation of the appointment.
  • Successful experiences and strong interest in fund raising activities as well as proposal writing for the new projects in the YMCA and also the ability to effectively communicate and establish solidarity with other regional and global level people’s organisations.
  • Successful experience in work relating to youth and women participation in the YMCA or other social organisations of similar nature, particularly rights-based approach programmes.
  • Should be prepared to travel in Asia and the Pacific visiting national/local YMCAs to work with them in an overall process to motivate and empower them to become effective and vital links at the regional and global levels.
  • The person should preferably be involved in similar work within her/his country. Some degree of national/local recognition for the work already done in this regard will be highly desired.
  • Other special skills, e.g. creative talents; good knowledge and understanding of Asia and Pacific cultures and religions; the ability to use various cultural and art-forms in communications.

 

3. Emoluments:

The Salary and other Benefits will be according to the approved salary and benefits for Executive Secretaries for Programmes of the Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs. (A copy of the Personnel Policy can be obtained upon request.)

 

4. Expected Date of Appointment: 1 September 2011

 

5. Basis of Employment: On contract for a period of Three Years.
