his Thanksgiving season, YMCA Singapore celebrates 120 years of community work in Singapore
With global guests from World, Asia and Pacific Alliances, YMCA Twinning as well as National Council of YMCA through our hybrid event (Physical attendees and via Zoom)

120 years of pivotal role in Singapore’s community

Singapore is a small nation with people as our only and precious resource. The development of people especially the young is of important for the continued growth and development of nation. In this regard, YMCA has played a vital role.

In the last 120 years, YMCA had partnered with various institutions in Singapore to strengthen and develop young people. In the early years of the nation, to develop body, mind and spirit of young people, which is part of the core object of the Association, YMCA provided facilities for football, volleyball, cricket, tennis and even a swimming pool – right next door at Fort Canning. History has it that it was converted from a salt tank that was designed to store seawater in those days to clean the streets. It became the first public swimming pool in Singapore!

Strategic partnerships and support for YMCA Singapore

The Tan Chin Tuan and the Citi Foundations. Both of these foundations had kept faith with YMCA Singapore and provided YMCA Singapore with sustained support through the years. This enabled YMCA Singapore to launch and innovate programmes with sector-wide impacts, like the ongoing Youth For Causes (YFC) programme. YFC has equipped youth with leadership skills that strengthened their employability prospects, as well as mobilised more than 150,000 volunteers to champion social causes and helped raise over S$10 million of donations for some 150 Social Service Agencies in that process.”

YMCA Singapore is grateful for the above and many other distinguished partners that have made the Thanksgiving dinner and YMCA Singapore a success.
