The Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs (APAY) Regional Youth Conference will be held on 25-30 August at Phnom Penom, Cambodia. The theme of this year will be “Youth Engagement for Sustainable Development”.

The APAY Youth Conference is an annual program of the Youth Participation and Leadership Development Committee. This is a platform to help promote Global Citizenship Education for young people from Asia and Pacific countries to join hand in hand in citizenship involvement and to be effective participants in global society, to redefine the new perspective of friendship, cultural pursuit and social action in the context of emerging socio- cultural – technological – economic realities in Asia and Pacific Region.

The participants at the Youth Conference will also have a unique opportunity to experience Cambodian Socio – Economic – Cultural trends in young Cambodian lives.

The Global Citizenship Education one of the priory training foryoung people has been conceptualized and being developed as a platform to prepare the youth to become effective leaders and change agents in their respective communities and the YMCA. This will just be one of the tools to help equip the youth for progressive leadership development, making them committed youth leaders and ready to actively participate and take greater responsibilities in promoting common consciousness and understanding about global realities. During the youth conference participants could understand the YMCA Global Citizenship concept in relation to the global development perspective. This will motivate and support the participants as action multipliers in promoting and integrating Global Citizenship Education in YMCA youth work and community development programs. This will also help the participants understand and internalize how the local, national and regional issues are interconnected and develop in them a new way of thinking. This conference also equip theyouth with knowledge and practical skills and competencies in starting their own global citizenship local actions and programs.

 

VENUE:

Cambodia YMCA has been in operation since 1999 with the purpose of thriving sustainable development for Cambodian communities. Driven by its Core Values “We Love... We Care... We Serve...”, TheCambodian YMCA work with the suffering communities especially people living in the slum to bring positive changes and hopes which promote the sense of giving, orienting, and inspiring young people to civic engagement and to be the change agent of society in the 21st century.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The sights of Phnom Penh are largely cultural and historical but only part of the experience exploring the city. The popular city sights include the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, the ToulSleng Genocide Museum and the Khmer Rouge ‘Killing Fields,’ the National Museum, the Russian Market, Central Market, Night Market and Wat Phnom.

Registration Fee: $ 65 (including $15 Green Fund)

Participation fee: $ 200
