Global Alternative Tourism Network

1. Position Description:

The Young Men’s Christian Association, YMCA, is an international, voluntary, Christian ecumenical movement. It seeks to unite young people, men, women and children, irrespective of race or religion, in the task of building a community characterized by justice, love and peace based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs established in 1949 is an integral part of the World Alliance of YMCAs. Based in Hong Kong, it is a Federation of 24 YMCA Movements in the region Asia and Pacific countries and region.

The major responsibility of the person in this position is to work under the direction of the General Secretary, implement the programs, particularly those related to the focus area of Global Alternative Tourism Network.

The Global Alternative Tourism Network is one of the thrust programs of APAY, which focuses on promoting responsible and sustainable tourism among the YMCAs of our region and beyond. The responsible and sustainable tourism of APAY is based on the CHANGE Principles. CHANGE is the acronym of Community centered, Holistic development, Advocating for global citizenship, Nature and heritage preserving, Gender and child sensitive and Economically viable. APAY have been successful in promoting the GATN to a number of YMCAs which are situated in various countries of our region.

 

 

2. Specific Responsibilities of the GATN Intern:

a. To assist in planning and implementing GATN programs of APAY.

b. To develop and maintain websites of APAY and update it when necessary.

c. To monitor the e-Learning Course on Climate Change of APAY and liaise with the participants.

d. To popularize the activities APAY through means of social media.

e. To make reports and impact analysis on GATN programs.

f. To facilitate and support the activities for Change agent’s programs.

g. To assist in preparing materials for APAY publications.

h. To perform any other duty as may be assigned by the General Secretary.

 

3. Qualifications, Experiences and Personal Attributes:

a. The candidate must be a Christian of any nationality of our region.

b. The candidate should be at least 23 years of age but not exceeding 33 years.

c. Obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university preferably in the field of Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related fields of study will be an added advantage.

d. Fluency in the English language and excellent writing skills.

e. Must be computer literate with special skills in web development.

f. Must have excellent health conditions. A health certificate must be furnished prior to final confirmation of the appointment.

g. Do have the mentality to work in a team with team spirit.

h. Should be prepared to travel in various countries of the Asia and the Pacific

 

4. Emoluments:

Stipend: USD 1,200-1,500 per month depending on the qualification and experiences.

Accommodation in Hong Kong, local health insurance and international travel insurance shall be provided. Traveling cost from home country and back to home country at the end of the tenure shall be provided.

 

5. Tenure of Internship:

This internship is for one year starting from 1st January, 2017.

e. Religion (Church affiliation and position held if any).

f. Present position in YMCA and/or other organizations, including description of responsibilities and past work experiences in detail if any.

g. Competency in the English language (candidates may send their recently published papers/documents, reviews, etc.).

h. Marital status (if married, please give detailed particulars of individual family members).

i. Other relevant information related to the description of the Position.

j. Names, addresses, fax, e-mail and telephone numbers of two Referees (non-family related) from within the YMCA movement or ecumenical community.

k. A paper of about 1,000 words on applicant’s commitment to the YMCA, and how YMCA can respond to the needs of the community.
