YMCA of Hong Kong: Youth Leadership Development

The YMCA of Hong Kong initiated the Youth Leadership Development (YLD) Programme as a Centenary Celebration activity of the YMCA Movement in Hong Kong. It aims to develop young people to face challenges of today and the future and in development of a sustainable community. Two hundred and sixty-four students from 22 secondary schools in Hong Kong were selected for the first YLD held from May to September 2001.

The main components of the Programme were a Youth Forum on "How Contemporary Education Reform Can Enhance the Quality of Youth Leadership", Team-building and Experiential Training. The participants carried out a social survey of their own choice and presented their findings in plenary. An exposure exchange to Singapore served as an excellent training experience for these young people to learn how to advocate for positive change in Hong Kong society.
