Committee on Gender Equity

The Gender Equity Forum at the 17 th General Assembly reaffirmed the Alliance 's resolve towards more conscious and constructive efforts at mainstreaming gender equity and sensitivity.

A gender perspective takes into account the gender relations in our families, communities and our YMCAs. It is inclusive. It establishes relationships of fairness, of justice between women and men, upholding life-affirming values. Women and men have different roles, interests and needs. In the region, we acknowledge and appreciate that women are more burdened, discriminated and violated against. Thus, we need to transform unequal social and gender relations and work towards integration of women into the ongoing development processes.

The Area Alliance working towards increasing sensitivity of the relationship between male and female since 1996, has called for increased recognition of the mission-role of women, and in decision-making and governance processes of the YMCA at all levels. It recognizes the crucial need for building of capacity of women. By empowering women for involvement in decision-making and engagement in the socio-cultural, economic, political, and domestic spheres of human life, we help create an equal partnership of women and men as the YMCA pursues responsiveness to Gender Equity.
