Subject : Regional Roundtable on YMCA As Global Citizens in Mission 21

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid advance of Information, Communication Technology in a globalised world has indeed made us more connected as a global citizenship that ˇ¨ guides individuals' understanding of themselves as members of communities - both on local and global levels - and their responsibility to these communitiesˇK.. and to the Earth itself. ˇ¨

There are great challenges to fulfilling the YMCA Mission today as global citizens. How do we work together with the people to give meaning and depth to being in solidarity with people, having a deep sense of the struggles of the diverse and pluralistic societies in the region and worldwide? Engage in social advocacy for the rights of people and the common good? How can global citizenship as a practical concept help us define what responsibilities and relationships, interconnectedness we have to and with people, a nd the Earth in its entirety, both nationally and internationally; to be active and responsible change agents in the world.

The 17 th General Assembly challenged us to respond as people of faith with our historical mission responsibility to bring love, justice and peace, and life to all. To commit to fulfilling our social responsibilities, reviewing our mission imperatives in community, working for peace with justice and sustainability of life.

Therefore, the Committee on Contemporary Mission and Social Relevance has planned this Contemporary Mission Roundtable to explore how YMCA as global citizens can discover fresh mission imperatives in the Asian and Pacific perspectives and act on them in relation to our key quadrennial thrusts - Social Responsibility, fostering Peace with Justice, and promoting Sustainability for Life.

Attached are the relevant documents for this Contemporary Mission Roundtable. We encourage YMCAs committed to our social responsibilities as global citizens, to participate in this Roundtable. Please send your registration form(s) to us to us by 10 June 2008 .

Yours sincerely,

Yip Kok Choong
General Secretary
