General Summary of GE Survey09

Dear Colleagues and Friends

Greetings from APAY!

On 14-17 December 2009, we are holding a Regional Workshop focusing on Gender Concerns and Migration to be hosted by Metro YMCA Singapore.

Our YMCAs in the region have responded in different extents and degrees of involvement to the womenˇ¦s issues and migration for many years, in the past. The findings of the QPP progress report and the updated GE survey called us to a more serious look into what would be the YMCAˇ¦s role in pursuance of our continuing commitment to gender equity and womenˇ¦s issues.
We are aware that migration is not a new phenomenom and is crucial to development. While it brings new employment and opportunities, it bears risks and suffering specially for women migrant workers. We need to continue enriching our understanding on the complex issues of migrant workers and the negative impact against them. We need to explore new programme interventions and engage in ways that meaningfully address the issues and concerns of migrants and their families.

Attached are the relevant documents. Please send your registration form(s) to us, (cristina@asiapacificymca.org) by 20 November 2009.

I also would like to bring to your attention the attached summary/compilation of the GE survey responses. We highly appreciate your cooperation.

We look forward to your YMCAˇ¦s active participation as we sustain the fostering of equal partnerships of men and women and working together towards fullness of life for all.

With best regards,

Kohei Yamada
General Secretary
