All the Participants in the GATN Workshop

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Sub: Workshop on Global Alternative Tourism: 27-30 June 2009 at YMCA Chiangmai

Thank you very much for your interest to participate in the APAY Workshop on Global Alternative Tourism. Together with the host YMCA of Chiangmai we welcome you to this important workshop of the APAY. The Task Group on Alternative Tourism have made significant efforts for developing an effective programme plan for the workshop. We are expecting 25 lay and professional leaders of the movement and experts on Alternative tourism engagements to join in the workshop.

About the Venue: The venue of the workshop will be YMCA International hotel, 11 Soi Mengrairasmi, Sermsuk Rd. T. Changpuak, A.Muang, Chiangmai, Thailand. Tel. +66 (0) 53221819 to20

Airport pick up: The participants who have informed their flight details to the APAY Secretariat will be received by the staff / volunteers of the YMCA of Chiangmai with YMCA signage at the exit of your terminal at Chiangmai International Airport.

Registration: Registration at the YMCA International Hotel will be open from 11 .A.M on 27 June 2009. Please have your registration / participation fees (Cash) ready for payment. Registration fee: $ 50 and participation fee $150 (Twin Sharing) / $ 200 (Single Room)

Work Groups: There will be three participatory work group meetings in the workshop to provide space and time for participants to discuss on the inputs and exposure visits and place their concerns on table. These work group discussions will be the key factors in streamlining the concept of Alternative Tourism in the context of the YMCA and develop framework for GATN and its working mechanism.

Case Sharing: Participants are requested to prepare Eco/ Alternative Tourism cases/ initiatives by the YMCAs in their country and share with the group at the session on 27 June. It will be good if you could make 30 copies of the presentation for sharing with all the participants. Please use the attached template. Computer and LCD projector will be available if you prefer a PowerPoint or video presentation

Precautions for H1 N1: We are taking adequate measures for addressing this issue. Please do not travel in case you are not well. We also advise you to bring your own thermometer for your personal use during the workshop and also avail overseas medical insurance. Sub : APAY Workshop on YMCA Global Alternative Tourism

This brings greetings to you from Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs.

It is encouraged to note that several YMCAs movements in the region have responded positively to the idea of initiating a Global YMCA Alternative Tourism Network. In view of conceptualising the idea and develop strategies for offering alternatives in Tourism through YMCAs across the Region, the APAY is facilitating a workshop on YMCA Alternative Tourism.

Attached please find the relevant details of the workshop. We encourage all the National Movements / local YMCAs to send delegates to participate in the workshop and be a partner in the network.
