World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse, 19 November 2004

Challenge 21 calls the YMCA to "uphold the rights of children." Many YMCAs are already running programmes to do just this. Now there is an opportunity for every YMCA to get involved. The World Alliance of YMCAs is encouraging all YMCAs to participate in the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse, 19 November 2004.

19th November is an opportunity for NGOs to come together and bring the plight of abused children to the world's attention. Organised by the Women's World Summit Foundation (WWSF), the World Day is part of on-going efforts to build an international NGO coalition for a culture of promoting children's rights.

YMCAs around the world are encouraged to organise activities for the 19th November in a way that is relevant to their own context. Activities could include raising awareness of the issue at community level, encouraging children to design posters, organising seminars, running a campaign etc. The World Alliance will promote these national and local efforts on its website.

If you are planning an activity for World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse please let us know so we can promote your event on our website.
