Strategic Meeting With Local YMCAs

The National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh (NCYB) has organized two days long strategic Meeting on 25-26 March, 2022. The Strategic Meeting takes place at Conference Hall of YMCA International House, Savar, Bangladesh. The National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh invites all local YMCA’s Presidents, National Executive Committee (NEC) Members and General Secretaries to participate in the strategic meeting. So the Lay Leaders and professional of Bangladesh Y movement have a wonderful opportunity to gather and participate in the essential Strategic Meeting.

The Strategic Meeting was opened and participants welcomed by the National General Secretary (NGS) Mr. Nipun Sangma and Mr. Jony Huber Rozario, President of NCYB. A prayer was offered by Strategic Meeting participant Mr. Immanuel Boiragy, General Secretary of Chittagong YMCA. After the devotion The inaugural ceremony of Strategic Meeting coordinated by Mr. Nipun Sangma, National General Secretary and he invites the Chief Guest Mr. Babu Markus Gomes, former President of APAY and NCYB and Mr. Jony Hubert Rozario, President of NCYB to take the reserved seats on the stage. After that the Chief Guest delivered his welcome speech and President of NCYB formally welcomed all the dignitaries present on the dais and participants of Lay Leaders and professional from Local YMCAs of Bangladesh. There were 32 participants (President, National Executive Committee (NEC) member and General Secretaries from each local YMCAs) who attended the meeting from 11 different local YMCAs of Bangladesh. The Strategic Meeting’s Chief Guest and facilitators were introduced by the National General Secretary Mr. Nipun Sangma and next each participant introduce by themselves in the meeting.

The Strategic Meeting carried out the following objectives:

1. Increase awareness of good governance practice in the Y movement of Bangladesh.

2. Strengthen existing Board/Steering Committee of Local YMCAs.

3. Undertake a strategic process to create a common vision and establish goals, objectives and priority activities for the local YMCAs with the focus on their own capacity and fund.

On 25 March, 2022 after the inauguration ceremony the first session of the Strategic Meeting led by Mr. Babu Markus Gomes, former President of APAY and National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh on the topic of “Good Governance Principal and Practice”. He explain and align with Good Governance practice in every single of YMCA’s rule of law, effective participation in Board, transparent and accountable process in YMCA, an efficient and effective legitimacy access YMCA through by law, empower youth and women, equity for all & sustainability of local, avoid Conflict of interest etc. After the fruitful discussion some of participants give their opinion and sharing about this issue.

Next session carried out by Mr. Jony Hubert Rozario, President of NCYB and Mr. Nipun Sangma, National General Secretary. At first time Mr. President has a wonderful power point presentation about the “Global Operating Plan (GOP)” of YMCA. The major part of “Global Operating Plan” of YMCA’s like the Mission Clarity, the Institutional Viability and the Social Relevance were introduce and profoundly explain for the participants and showed interconnected these three components. Mr. Nipun Sangma, National General Secretary present power point presentation about the Paris Basis and Challenge 21 which give better understanding of YMCA’s background, assist to set up common goals for local YMCAs and prefer priority issues to involve in the term of Social Relevance. After the power point presentation the facilitator gave assignment for the participants and formed three groups (President Group, NEC Group and General Secretary Group) among the participants to prepare group report on the assignment. Each group discussed and brainstormed 40 minutes on the topic and identified solution to create common projects and its function based on local YMCA’s funds and capacities. Every group had wonderful presentation on the assignment and participants also have had opportunity to give their opinion, observation and clarification by the question and answer.

On 26 March, 2022 after the devotion all General Secretaries of Local YMCAs shared their Local YMCAs activities and plans for next five years by power point presentation as well as read out report. Before ending the Strategic Meeting Mr. Jony Hubert Rozario express his heartfelt thanks to all the participants for their hard work as well as active participations to successful the meeting and he invites all to contribute their time, energy and resources to fulfill YMCAs ambitions and achieving a better future.
