Taichung YMCA Visit to Sri Lanka

From July 4th to 12th, 2025, a dynamic 12-member youth team from Taichung YMCA, Taiwan visited Sri Lanka for an international community service program, warmly hosted by Pamunugama and Kandy YMCAs. Throughout their stay, the team actively participated in a series of meaningful community-focused activities including painting a home for a family with disabilities, beautifying a local school, conducting a beach cleanup, and organizing fun and interactive sessions for children. One of the highlights was a friendly Kubb tournament, a popular team-building game promoted by the YMCA movement.

Their final evening at Pamunugama YMCA was filled with joy and celebration, featuring a vibrant cultural show with children, followed by a heartfelt farewell dinner, reflecting the strong bonds and cultural exchange nurtured during their time in Sri Lanka.

Beyond service, the group also had the opportunity to explore the island’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. Their journey included visits to Galle Fort and Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic), an engaging tea plucking experience and exploration of the Hanthana Tea Museum, and a thrilling 12km hike along Stage 1 of the Pekoe Trail, from Hanthana to Galaha.

The program concluded at the National YMCA Office with a certificate ceremony recognizing their contribution and spirit of service. Before departing, the group enjoyed some free time for shopping and relaxation. They returned to Taiwan with unforgettable memories, new friendships, and a strengthened commitment to cross-cultural understanding and community service.
