YMCA Timor Leste Collaborates with Various Institutions for Growth, Development and Sustainability

1. Collaboration of YMCA of Timor Leste with the Theology Training Centre of the Protestant Church in Timor-Leste (CFT-IPTL)

To improve the YMCA Training Center facilities, we signed an agreement with Centru Formasaun Teologia of Igreja Protestante iha Timor Lorosa’e (CFT-IPTL) or Theology Training Center of Protestant Church in Timor-Leste (CFT-IPTL) for providing a space or training room to the YMCA Training Center to conduct training activities. The agreement period for four (4) years is effective from 24 June 2025 until 23 June 2029. During this period, both organizations will collaborate to enhance the quality of training programs offered, ensuring that participants receive valuable and comprehensive education results. This partnership aims to strengthen youth empowerment and foster personal development among individuals to meet market needs. This collaboration will also focus on innovative teaching methodologies and the integration of real-world experiences to better prepare participants for future challenges. By leveraging the strengths and resources of both organizations, the partnership seeks to create a sustainable impact on the community and promote lifelong learning.

Signed an agreement with the Centro Formación Teológica for facilities assistance during four (4) years. With the new facilities YMCA of Timor-Leste managed to develop five main programs, such as:

i. Japanese Language Course as the main training centre activity since 2019. Since then, the program has expanded to include various levels of proficiency, categorized to both beginner and advanced learners. Additionally, cultural immersion activities have been incorporated to enhance the understanding of Japanese customs and traditions.

ii. English Language course as a newly developed program to meet the sessional worker requirements for Australia and New Zealand. This initiative aims to enhance the employability of participants by equipping them with essential language skills. Additionally, ongoing assessments and feedback will be implemented to ensure the effectiveness of both courses.

iii. The Administration and Finance course is also a new training program to enable participants to compete in the national job market. This program will cover key topics such as financial management, budgeting, and administrative practices. By fostering a comprehensive understanding of these areas, it seeks to prepare individuals for successful careers in various sectors.

iv. The leadership course is also a new training program to enable participants who are interested in learning effective leadership strategies and enhancing their managerial skills. Participants will engage in interactive workshops and case studies that emphasize real-world applications, ultimately empowering them to lead teams with confidence and drive organizational success.

V. The procurement course is also a new training program developed to meet job market requirements. This program will focus on essential procurement practices, strategic sourcing, and negotiation techniques, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of supply chain management. Through hands-on learning experiences, attendees will gain valuable insights and skills that are directly applicable to their roles in the industry.

2. Signed a grant agreement with the State Secretariat for Vocational Training and Employment (Secretário de Estado da Formação Profissional e Emprego (SEFOPE)) to support YMCA for the next 10 months

The objective of the grant for the institutional capacity and strengthening of the YMCA training centre to ensure sustainability and a qualified program. The grant will cover the regular expenses for the training centre such as wages and office supplies. The proposal submitted to  Secretário de Estado da Formação Profissional e Emprego (SEFOPE). At the end, Secretário de Estado da Formação Profissional e Emprego (SEFOPE) agreed to award a grant with a total amount of USD 7,500.00 to support the YMCA training centre.

In the past, YMCA Timor-Leste has selected eight students and deployed them to Japan; six of them participate in the seasonal worker program, and two of them participate in the TiT program. The TiT program, which focuses on training and skill development, has helped these students enhance their qualifications and adaptability in the Japanese workforce. As a result, both programs not only provide valuable employment opportunities but also foster cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Timor-Leste and Japan. Seasonal work in Japan can provide Timorese workers with higher incomes and opportunities to gain valuable skills.

3. Japanese language training phase one concluded

The Japanese language course was conducted for three months, effective from April 2025 till June 2025. Before awarding a certificate required a final exam is mandatory to ensure that students able to use their language abilities in their personal and professional life.

The objective of YMCA Timor-Leste was to establish a training center that adhered to the organization's vision. As a transformative organisation for children, youth, and community to maintain peace and love for the better future of Timor-Leste. Through various programs and initiatives, the YMCA aims to empower individuals and foster a sense of belonging, enabling them to contribute positively to society and promote sustainable development in their communities. Through capacity building to poor people who are seeking job opportunities on their journeys. The YMCA training center helps its students during and after training.

Outputs and Outcomes

The YMCA training program aims to humanize individuals by providing foundational training that enhances their skills and capabilities, in line with the mission of YMCA Timor-Leste. This training focuses on serving and maintaining sustainable practices, contributing to the development of a better life in accordance with Christian principles that nurture the spirit, mind, and body.

We are called to serve our communities with compassion and integrity, fostering an environment where love and kindness can thrive. This holistic approach not only improves our own well-being but also lifts up those around us, creating a collective journey toward a more fulfilling life.

Our journey promotes collaboration and understanding, enabling us to build stronger connections with our students. By embodying these values, we can inspire others to join us in the pursuit of a brighter future for all.
