YMCA Japan invites to Join the YMCA Pink Shirt Day movement to end bullying
YMCA Pink Shirt Day Campaign 2026 - Join the movement to end bullying-

What is Pink Shirt Day?
Pink Shirt Day is an anti-bullying movement that began in 2007 with two students in Canada.
The story began when a male student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. Two seniors who heard about this bought 50 pink shirts and used the internet to encourage their peers to wear them the next day. On that day, hundreds of students arrived at school wearing pink shirts and accessories, showing their solidarity. As the school turned pink, the bullying naturally stopped.
This story spread to over 70 countries via social media. Today, the last Wednesday of February is recognized globally as "Pink Shirt Day"—a day to reflect on bullying and stand in solidarity with those who are targeted.
Pink Shirt Day in Japan
The YMCAs in Japan support this movement and organize events nationwide every year. On this day, staff and children wear pink clothing or accessories to express their opposition to bullying. It is a day to participate in special lessons, think deeply about the issue, and show that we stand together.
Pink Shirt Day 2026 will be held on Wednesday, February 25.
(Note: While the general global date is the last Wednesday, Japanese YMCAs often hold activities around this period.)
2026 Theme: "My Feelings Matter, Your Feelings Matter"
This year’s slogan was created by the "Children’s Rights Project," a collaboration between Morioka YMCA students and volunteers from the Iwate Bar Association.
The project developed a "Children’s Rights Karuta" (card game) to help children learn about human rights through play. It includes 40 phrases, such as "Even if you think it's just a game, it's bullying if it hurts someone." In November 2025, these cards were distributed to all 290 elementary schools in Iwate Prefecture.
