Inauguration of the Savar YMCA English Club
The Savar YMCA marked a significant milestone with the successful inauguration of the Savar YMCA English Club, held at 4:00 PM at the YMCA International House, Radio Colony, Savar, Dhaka. The event unfolded in a vibrant, joyful, and inspiring atmosphere, reflecting the shared vision of empowering youth through language, leadership, and learning.
The ceremony was graciously inaugurated by Ms. Marshia Mili Gomes, President of the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh (NCYB), whose presence added great honor and significance to the occasion and the program was presided over by Mr. Shekhor Gilbert Purification, Vice-President of Savar YMCA.
The event was further enriched by the presence of several distinguished guests and leaders, including Mr. Manik Willver D Costa, National General Secretary of Bangladesh YMCA; Mr. Tapan T. Rozario, Former President of Savar YMCA; Ms. Sheuly Maria Cruze, Vice-President of Savar YMCA; Mr. Ronel Francis Costa, Executive Secretary for Programme of Bangladesh YMCA along with respected members of the Savar YMCA Board. Their participation demonstrated strong institutional support and encouragement for youth-focused initiatives.
The program began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the honorable guests, board members, and participants. This symbolic gesture represented the illumination of knowledge, hope, and new beginnings. It set a meaningful tone for the entire event, emphasizing the transformative power of education and learning. The ceremony was followed by an opening prayer offered by one of the participants, invoking blessings for the success of the English Club and the growth of all those involved.
Approximately 30 enthusiastic participants attended the opening ceremony, reflecting a strong interest among youth in improving their English communication skills. Their energy and eagerness were clearly visible throughout the program, creating a lively and engaging environment.
A special highlight of the event was the inspiring video message from Dr. Ramona U.J. Morales, Vice-President of the Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs (APAY). In her message, she encouraged the participants to embrace this opportunity for learning and self-development, emphasizing the importance of communication skills in today’s global world. Her words served as a powerful motivation for all attendees.
Additionally, the initiative drew inspiration from the remarkable work of the Makati YMCA in the Philippines, whose successful English Club model has been a guiding example. This connection highlights the spirit of global YMCA collaboration and shared learning across borders.
One of the most impactful segments of the program was the special opening session conducted by Ms. Marshia Mili Gomes. Her session focused on the importance of confidence, communication, and leadership among youth. She encouraged participants to actively engage, practice regularly, and support one another in their journey of learning English. Her words resonated deeply with the audience and set a strong foundation for the club’s future activities.
Following this, all respected guests delivered motivational and encouraging speeches. They emphasized the importance of English proficiency in education, career development, and global engagement. They also appreciated the initiative taken by Savar YMCA in creating a platform where young people can enhance their skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The celebration also featured a joyful cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the beginning of a new journey filled with learning, growth, and opportunities. This moment brought everyone together in a spirit of unity and celebration, marking the official launch of the English Club.
