Reflection on My Change Agent Journey

Hello everyone! My name is Ramis John, and I am from Lahore, Pakistan. Since 2023, I have been working as the Youth Coordinator at Lahore YMCA and a member of YPLD Committee at APAY. I am proud to be the first Change Agent from Pakistan to participate in the World YMCA Change Agent Programme. It is a great honor for me and for Lahore YMCA to represent Pakistan on this global platform.
My journey as a Change Agent began with a simple goal to empower young people and create positive change in my community. Through my work at Lahore YMCA, I have seen how young people can make a real difference when they are given opportunities to lead. Being part of this program has inspired me to keep learning, work with others, and encourage more young people to become active leaders.
This experience has also helped me grow as a leader. I have learned that leadership is not about giving orders; it is about listening, supporting others, and working together. I have become more confident, improved my communication and teamwork skills, and learned how to face challenges with a positive attitude. Most importantly, I have realized that even small actions can make a big difference when they are done with dedication.
One of the most meaningful parts of my journey has been connecting with Change Agents from different countries. Meeting young leaders from different cultures has given me new ideas and perspectives. Although we come from different backgrounds, we all share the same passion for creating positive change in our communities. These friendships and shared experiences have encouraged me to think bigger and work together for a better future.
My Change Agent project focuses on climate change because it is one of the biggest challenges facing our world today. In Pakistan, we have seen the effects of climate change through extreme weather, pollution, and environmental damage. Through my project, I want to raise awareness, encourage sustainable practices, and inspire young people to take action to protect the environment. I believe that when communities work together, even small steps can lead to lasting change.
One lesson that has stayed with me throughout this journey is to never lose hope. Every challenge has taught me to stay positive, keep believing in myself, and never give up. Even during difficult times, I have learned that patience and determination lead to growth. This experience has made me a stronger leader and motivated me to keep working for positive change.
To every young person who is thinking about becoming a leader, my message is simple: believe in yourself. You do not need to have all the answers to make a difference. Be willing to learn, stay committed to your values, and never be afraid to take the first step. Your ideas, your voice, and your actions have the power to inspire others and create positive change.
I would like to sincerely thank the World YMCA for giving me the opportunity to be part of the Change Agent Programme Cohort 6. I am deeply grateful to Lahore YMCA, especially our General Secretary, Mrs. Ghazala Sarfraz, for her constant encouragement and support throughout this journey. I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Asia Pacific Alliance of YMCAs (APAY), especially General Secretary Mr. Nam Boo Won and Executive Secretary Ms. Yura Rhee, for their guidance and continuous support. Their encouragement has played a vital role in my growth as a Change Agent. This journey would not have been possible without the support of APAY and everyone who believed in me. I am truly thankful for this life-changing experience.
Ramis John,
Change Agent
APAY YPLD Member,
Youth Coordinator, Lahore YMCA, Pakistan.
