This season's second spell of the cold wave has come as an added misery for the poor and disadvantaged people, especially in the northern districts. The minimum temperature was recorded a few days ago, which put enormous difficulties for the poor and marginalized families who could not afford winter clothing like a blanket for their family members.

The recent National Executive Committee of The National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh, held on January 13, 2023, decided to undertake an emergency project to help poor people severely suffering from cold waves – a total of 550 poor households, preferably female-headed, to receive double-size blankets.

This project was implemented by January 23, 2023, through Eleven (11) Local YMCAs. The comments and feedback from the beneficiaries were heart-touching. Many beneficiaries told YMCA volunteers and staff how useful those blankets were for them. One said, “This blanket will help me to sleep happily tonight, which was worse for me yesterday and the day before.” The other woman recipient said, “the whole night I could not sleep as my baby was crying due to cold and I didn’t have enough winter clothing, but tonight baby will sleep comfortably”. Local leaders and community people highly appreciated for undertaking this kind of project.
