News of Newly Appointed National General Secretary of Bangladesh YMCA
The National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh is glad to announce that Mr. Manik Willver D Costa is appointed the National General Secretary of Bangladesh YMCA effective from June 1, 2025. The decision was made during the National Executive Committee Meeting on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, after a rigorous review of the NGS Search Committee’s recommendations based on the interview results.
Manik Willver D Costa, a seasoned executive leader with more than two decades of experience in pastoral, financial, and strategic positions, brings a wealth of expertise to the position. He has a distinguished career that includes serving as the Director (Programs & Operations) at the Chattogram Catholic Archdiocese. During his tenure, he exhibited exceptional leadership by ensuring that organizational missions were harmonious with operational excellence. His innovative approach to program coordination, donor relations, and financial administration has had an enduring influence on the institutions he has supported.
Manik D Costa initiated his professional career as a part-time high school teacher. Subsequently, he became an office assistant for the pastoral service team at the Chattogram Catholic Archdiocese and ultimately assumed the position of Director. In the interim, he has held the positions of personal secretary to the bishop, diocesan secretary, diocesan pastoral coordinator, and acting diocesan financial administrator.
Throughout his professional career as a pastoral and administrative leader, he was a renowned biblical and catechetical trainer in the Chattogram Catholic Archdiocese. He conducted a variety of catechetical, biblical, community development, youth and women capacity building and empowerment, ecumenical and interfaith dialogue, strategic and financial workshops, seminars and training. He maintained a close relationship with the devout in remote regions, providing them with instruction and direction in pursuit of Christ's mission, while simultaneously contributing to the administrative advancement of the archdiocese. He is recognized by his colleagues for his ability to resolve issues with a combination of patience and insight.
Some of the notable international programs in which he participated include the World Youth Day in Germany (2005), the 2nd Bishops' Institute for Lay Apostolate on Youth in Malaysia (2007), the World Youth Day in Australia (2008), 6th and 7th general assemblies of the Asian Integral Pastoral Approach in Thailand (2010, 2015) and the training on Laudato Si in India (2019).
In 2014, Manik Willver D Costa became an associate member of the YMCA movement. He served as the Vice Chairman (Program) in 2019-2020, Vice Chairman (Personnel) in 2020-2022, Executive Committee Director in 2023-2024, and Chairman in 2024-2025 at the Chittagong YMCA after achieving full membership. In 2023-2025, he also served as a Director of the National Executive Committee of the Bangladesh YMCA. He transformed concepts into action in these roles, thereby enhancing the engagement of programs and the strength of teams. He has the ability to listen, collaborate, and empower others. He played a vital role in the development of strategic planning for the national council and also for the Chittagong YMCA, aligned with Vision 2030.
Manik Willver D Costa is a Catholic Church follower in his personal life. He was born on November 29, 1982, and is married to Ms. Moury Paroy, who are the parents of a nine-year-old daughter. He holds a degree in business management from City University.
In essence, Manik Willver D Costa is a dedicated and multifaceted individual who has made a significant contribution to faith-based programs and actions, inclusive development, and the mission of Christ journeying with all in a synodal approach.
The National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh is confident that the Bangladesh YMCA will make significant strides forward under the strategic leadership of Mr. Manik Willver D Costa.
