Reflection On General Assembly And Youth Assembly
My Personal Reflection On The General Assembly And Youth Assembly
By Jenisha Winslin, YMCA India
This is Jenisha from YMCA Madurai, India. I feel blessed and privileged for the opportunity to attend the APAY Youth Assembly at Chennai.
I am writing to share my heartfelt reflections on the General Assembly, Youth Assembly, and Gender Equity Forum organized by the Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs (APAY) in Chennai, India from 13th to 20th of September 2023. As an attendee, the experience was both enlightening and empowering, providing a platform for meaningful discussions, exchange of ideas, and the cultivation of a collective vision on the theme " Journeying together as a resilient community transforming lives through Vision 2030" for a more inclusive and equitable future.
The General Assembly, as the pinnacle of the event, was a momentous occasion where leaders from diverse backgrounds converged to address pressing issues facing the region. The sessions were thought-provoking, covering a wide array of topics ranging from social justice and environmental sustainability to the role of youth in shaping the future of our communities. The collaborative spirit that permeated the assembly underscored the shared commitment to fostering positive change.
The Youth Assembly, a dynamic component of the event, was a testament to the vibrancy and potential of the younger generation. The enthusiastic participation of young people from different countries infused the gathering with a palpable energy. Through engaging workshops, discussions, and collaborative programs, the Youth Assembly succeeded in nurturing a sense of unity among the youth, encouraging them to become catalysts for positive change in their respective communities.
What struck me the most throughout these events was the power of dialogue. The exchange of ideas, the sharing of experiences, and the willingness to listen created an atmosphere of collaboration and understanding. It wasn't just about attending sessions; it was about forging connections, building bridges, and leaving with a shared commitment to drive positive change.
As I boarded back home, I carry with me not just the memories of a conference but a sense of responsibility and purpose. The APAY events in Chennai have ignited a fire within me to be an active participant in the ongoing journey towards a more just and equitable society. The connections made, the stories heard, and the lessons learned will serve as guiding lights in my personal and professional life. By applying the insights gained from the General Assembly and Youth Assembly, we can contribute to the realization of a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future for the Asia and Pacific region.
