Skills Oasis for Employment Batch 2 (Yangon) Concludes in Kalaw

The Myanmar YMCA successfully wrapped up the Skills Oasis for Employment Youth Camp on March 18, 2025, after an immersive and transformative eight-day program in the picturesque town of Kalaw, Shan State. Held from March 11 to 19, 2025, this impactful initiative brought together 27 young participants from the Yangon region, empowering them with essential soft skills for both personal growth and career advancement.

An Experience Beyond the Classroom

The camp was not just about lectures and discussions; it was a dynamic blend of hands-on activities and experiential learning. Each evening, participants showcased their creativity and teamwork through engaging activities such as campfire sessions, song competitions, storytelling contests, impromptu speech challenges, theatre performances, and a vibrant talent show. These programs encouraged them to apply their leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities in real time, enhancing their interpersonal skills in an enjoyable and interactive environment.

Exploring Kalaw’s Cultural and Natural Heritage

In addition to indoor activities, the participants embarked on exposure visits to Kalaw’s historical and natural landmarks, including majestic waterfalls, renowned pagodas, and breathtaking mountain viewpoints. These excursions offered them a deeper understanding of the region’s rich cultural heritage while allowing them to practice adaptability and collaboration outside their comfort zones.

Environmental Conservation Through Hands-On Learning

One of the most impactful aspects of the program was its unique approach to environmental education. Instead of classroom-based instruction, participants took part in a trekking trip to a hilltop, where they experienced the beauty of nature firsthand. This immersive approach allowed them to appreciate environmental conservation in a tangible way, reinforcing the idea that learning isn’t confined to four walls—it thrives in the great outdoors.

Empowering Youth for a Brighter Future

Through this intensive program, the youth not only developed critical soft skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and adaptability, but also gained a renewed sense of purpose and confidence in their personal and professional journeys. The Skills Oasis for Employment Youth Camp in Kalaw has proven to be a stepping stone toward future success, equipping participants with the skills and experiences necessary to navigate their careers with resilience and ambition.

Voices of Transformation

Participants shared their overwhelming appreciation for the program. Ms. Hallen Cing, a participant from this youth camp, expressed, "This program is incredibly impactful for youth in Myanmar. I have improved significantly, especially in communication and teamwork."

For many, this was their first experience attending such an immersive youth camp, and it became a transformative journey that reshaped their perspectives. Several participants echoed a similar sentiment, stating, "This camp was a life-changing experience. It has helped us grow, develop new skills, and adopt a more positive mindset."

As this successful batch concludes, the Myanmar YMCA looks forward to continuing its mission of youth empowerment through innovative and impactful programs in the future.
